Light in the Darkness
A petite woman answered the door with hesitant eyes. As we began explaining that we were praying for people in the building, her young son jumped into the conversation and explained that his mother doesn't speak much French; she is from Romania.
Yet when she understood that we were there to pray, her eyes lit up and she welcomed us inside.
"Are you Christians?" the son asked.
"Yes," we replied. "We follow Jesus."
He smiled. "Us, too."
We sat on their couch in the sparsely decorated apartment. With broken French - from both parties - the conversation was a bit awkward. My partner, a local to this community, and I learned that this young Romanian family recently moved to this particular apartment complex not knowing very many people in the neighborhood; they go to an evangelical church a few towns away.
"You are an answer to our prayers," I told the family. "We have been praying for this neighborhood, that people here would know Jesus. You are a Light in this darkness." The young boy nodded; his mother smiled with glistening eyes.
Pray that this family would continue to follow Jesus and that they would be a witness to their neighbors.
