Baptism in the Aegean Sea

Nearly 3 months ago, on a windy and stormy night, a man made his fourth attempt to cross the sea from Turkey to Greece.  This time, he succeeded.

From the time he was a child, he had a longing to know more about Jesus; it was difficult for him to learn about Him though, given his country of birth.  Even Christians that he asked about Jesus were hesitant to share much with him for fear of persecution.  After just a few weeks at the refugee camp, a volunteer shared the Gospel with this man and he immediately decided to follow Jesus.

"I don't understand how people can hear about Jesus and not believe," he said in front of the Greek Evangelical church on Sunday before being baptized.

What an honor to listen to this man's testimony and pray over him as he symbolically passed from death to Life in the very same waters that brought him to a land where the Gospel can be proclaimed freely!

Pray for this man - and others here - who long to follow Jesus yet continue to face persecution from fellow countrymen, despite now living in Greece.  Pray for the Christian volunteers to be bold in proclaiming the Gospel, that every tribe, tongue, and nation represented here (well over 40!) would hear the Good News.
