La Rentrée: From 0-200 mph

All the French kids go back to school on Monday, and "La Rentrée" is now in full-swing.  In France, everything stops during July and August and everything starts again in September.  This morning we met as a team for the first time in over 6 weeks to prepare for the coming month.  This September is a particularly busy month for Le Rivage with special events happening nearly every weekend, in addition to regular activities and bi-weekly services.  Not only is life getting busier, but the weather is about to change drastically, reminding us that we cannot live in perpetual summer.  Darn.

In addition to preparing for an extremely busy month with Le Rivage, Jordan and I are preparing to transition away from Aix-les-Bains after 4 1/2 years.  Not only are we beginning to sort, throw, give, and pack, but we are also planning for 2 months in Greece, 13 months in the United States, and our return to France in 2019.

There are 38 days until we move all of our stuff from our apartment into a storage unit.

Only 45 days remain until we say "Au revoir" to France and "Χαίρετε" to Greece (yeah, I have no idea how to pronounce that!).

Needless to say, we're feeling a little anxious over here.

Just typing that made my heart beat a little faster.

Pray for us?

We were reminded recently that it's easier to be the one to leave than the one to stay.  Jordan and I have a million things on our to-do lists; we have exciting things to look forward to; people we're excited to see on the other side of the ocean; a [small, sometimes still unclear] vision for our future.  Those who will remain here will continue doing life as they know it, but without us alongside.

It's truly bitter-sweet, as cliché as it may sound.

We are confident that we are going where God wants us to go, doing what he wants us to do; but it's difficult to say goodbye to the place - and people - who have been our home and family for the last 4 1/2 years.

The Heath/Egli boys.  Our dear friends leave Grenoble next week for their year in the USA.

Jordan and I have lived in Aix-les-Bains longer than anywhere else (besides our parents' homes); we've lived in France for more than half of our marriage.  We've learned how to do ministry together, how to navigate a new language and culture, how to live far from those who know us best, how to parent...

Would you commit to praying for us as we enter into this crazy season of transition?

Pray we'd be present for as long as possible while properly preparing for what's ahead.

Pray we'd finish well and say goodbye well.

Pray we'd be healthy - physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

Pray for our marriage and family during this unusual season.

Pray for our church.  We are encouraged to see new leaders stepping up (sometimes it takes a void to push others to take responsibility); pray that people would take over our responsibilities and do more than we could even imagine.  May God's Church expand in Aix-les-Bains!
