From the Mouths of Babes

The nine year old students in our friend's French class at the Christian school in North Africa understand that they've done bad things to hurt God and that they need His forgiveness.  Each day they read a story from the Bible, and our friend can see that the stories are impacting their young lives in some incredible ways.

They understand that Adam and Eve sinned.  They tried to cover their sin and shame with leaves, but it wasn't enough.  God killed an animal in order to cover their sin and shame.

The Israelites received the 10 Commandments, but it was impossible for them to follow all of God's Laws.  In order to receive forgiveness, it was necessary to sacrifice a perfect and blameless animal.

But animals are mortal creatures.

Our souls are eternal.

How can an mortal creature give us forgiveness for eternity?

"Only God is eternal," a child wondered aloud.  "But how can God sacrifice Himself?"

While we were visiting, the class began to read the prophecies of Isaiah.  Our friend never told them who Isaiah was talking about, but the kids began to understand.

Pray for the North African students this Easter week as they begin reading the Gospels and learning about the person of Jesus - the Son of God and Son of Man, the perfect and spotless Lamb who came to sacrifice Himself as the Eternal Sacrifice, once and for all.  Praise Him!
