Fight Against Evil

Recently we reconnected with an old college friend while he and his wife were in Geneva for a few days.  He's a pilot for the Navy and just finished a 9 month deployment.  As we talked about all that's happened in the five(?!!) years since we've seen each other, his work in the military, and our work in France, I realized:  His work for the country of the United States of America is an image of our work [as Christians] for the Kingdom of God.

Our hearts sank at the ever-present darkness in this world as our friend shared with us both literal and figurative images from his time at sea and his flights over deserts.  Yet we know the Hope of what is yet to come.  Battles are left to be fought, but the War has already been won in the name of Jesus.  Praise Him!

"Our job is to fight the evil," he said.  "We can't completely take out all of the evil in the world, but we can make a difference," he said matter-of-factly of his role in the US military.  "We see evil.  We fight against it.  What else is our purpose?" he shrugged.

We know that Satan has authority over this earth for the present time.  We see evil.  We must fight against it - the hunger and prostitution, sickness and poverty, abuse, depression, self-absorption, and apathy - in the name of Jesus.  Bring Light to the Darkness.  What else is our purpose?
