Unexpected Improvements

Math has never been my strongest subject, but since moving to France, my math skills have improved.

Not only do we continually have to consider the time change between here and the US, but we also have transitioned to [more frequently] using military time.

In addition to clocks and time differences, the French require math for the numbers.  Ask anyone who is learning a new language and they will say that numbers can be challenging, but check out the French system for some of their numbers:
70 = soixante-dix = 60 (soixant) + 10 (dix)
75 = soixante-quinze = 60 + 15
80 = quatre-vingt = 4 (quatre) 20s (vingt)
90 = quatre-vingt dix = 80 + 10
95 = quantre-vingt quinze = 80 + 15
99 = quatre-vingt dix-neuf = 80 + 19 (=10+9)
Try getting a phone number from someone; it can be awfully confusing!  Or at the market when they tell you how much money you owe; listen carefully!

So there you have it.  Thank you, France, for helping this 26 year old improve her basic math skills.
