That's so French!

There are moments in our days when we laugh and shake our heads, internally saying, "That's so French!"  Let me share one such story....

We were looking over the menu at a restaurant.  Jordan had a hankering for a cheeseburger and was thrilled to see so many choices on the menu.  Choosing one, he asked the waitress if he could have it with a sauce from a different burger.

"Oh," she said, taken aback.  "I don't know if that's a good idea.  We choose each sauce specially for each burger."

That is so French.

When a meal is suggested (such as the plat du jour or daily special), you don't deviate from it.  If the menu says it comes with mashed potatoes, you don't ask for fries instead.  If there's a mushroom gravy, don't ask for it to be on the side.  The chef created the menu and he knows what's best, regardless of your personal preferences.

Ultimately, this kind waitress brought Jordan a side of the sauce he requested so he could try it with his fries; he wasn't disappointed.

As we prepared to leave, we looked around for the waitress.  She was no where to be found.  We'd already paid, but we looked at each other and said, "I feel like we have to say goodbye...."

That's so French!

Upon entering an establishment, you say "Bonjour" to each person.  It's rude to enter a store, for example, and neglect to say hello.  When you leave, you also say goodbye to all who are present.  Apparently, we've assimilated enough to feel guilty about leaving a restaurant without properly saying, "Merci.  Au revoir."

That's so French.
