New Gospel Family

When was the last time this church was so full?  I asked myself at the New Gospel Family concert at the Catholic Church in Aix.

The crowd got excited as the group began singing "Oh Happy Day!"
Oh happy day (oh happy day)
Oh happy day, yeah (oh happy day)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
When my Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
My sins away (oh happy day)
I'm talking about that happy day (oh happy day)
He taught me how (oh yeah, how)
To wash (to wash) fight and pray
Fight and pray and to live
As the audience continued to sing along [in English], I stood in awe.  Do they know why they are singing this?

"We raise our hands in the sanctuary.... We clap our hands in the sanctuary.... We dance in the sanctuary...." they sang in another song.

This place was created for worship; when was the last time these pews were filled with worshippers of the One True God?  I wondered as I glanced at the people raising their hands, clapping, and dancing.

Part way through the performance the leader of the group asked the French audience, "Do you know what the word Gospel means?  It's an English word that translates to évangile," he explained.  "Évangile literally means Good News," he continued to share the Good News of Christ's death and resurrection, of our redemption and our restored relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ.  "Many people say they believe, but it means nothing for their lives," he finished.

May the words of the Gospel and of the Gospel Music penetrate the hearts of those who heard last night in our city!
