TdF Prayer Team: Day 5
Today (Friday) we spent the day in Grenoble, about an hour south of Aix-les-Bains. While we've had a Prayer Team all week, Grenoble has had a group of college students from Dallas, Texas joining their youth and young adults group for evangelism and outreach.
Each day the Grenoble team distributes thousands of freshly baked cookies, and when people ask them why, they tell them it's because they love Jesus. They have had some amazing conversations and at least one person give her life to the Lord. They also sell American pancakes (with all proceeds going towards an orphanage in Madagascar), distribute food to the homeless, hand out the Gospel of Mark with hand-written notes, and invite people to a concert that will be performed on Saturday night.
It was a joy to serve with them today!
We joined the group of 30+ people for lunch at the church, then we prayed for them as they hit the streets.
Our group joined a fellow GEMer to prayer walk in a highly populated Immigrant community. 18,000 people live in the low-income high-rises, many of which come from North Africa.
We returned in time to hear stories of how God worked as we were out on the streets. Two girls were stopped by some people who asked, "Are you Christians?" They had a long conversation with these two men, one of which was Catholic. The Catholic man acknowledged his sin and said he needs to read his Bible more; the other man has a hard heart.
Each day the group writes the names of the people they've talked to on a post-it note. The prayer board is covered with names of people being prayed for. One man said, "My faith was too small. This is France! I never expected to see so many names written on that board." Praise God!
Carol had the opportunity to write a few names down tonight, too.
With more Gospels of Mark in tow and fliers advertising the concert tomorrow night, we gathered for a BBQ at a nearby park. It was relaxing, but also another great opportunity to share food and conversations with many passers-by.
We praise God for the work He is doing in Grenoble and in France! Not only are seeds being planted in the community, but the youth of the French churches in Grenoble are having the opportunity to lead spiritual conversations. One girl even had the opportunity to share with a former teacher and high school classmate of how Jesus has changed her life since she had last seen them. Amazing!
