"Your Salvation Lies Elsewhere"

Did you know that one of the greatest fears for French people is unemployment?  A friend of ours told us that the people of France fear unemployment more than death.

Can you imagine what the people of France are feeling right now with an unemployment rate of over 10%?

A campaign was launched in early September by three influential Frenchmen called “Barrez-Vous” (“get out” or “break free”) which is encouraging the youth of France to leave the country in order to find employment and a better future elsewhere.
“French youth, your salvation lies elsewhere. It’s not just about running away from a country with bleak economic prospects. It is about reinventing yourselves so that you can return rich in new experiences, full of the creativity and enthusiasm that flourishes today in the four corners of the world.”

When I (Kate) read this article, the phrase, "your salvation lies elsewhere" really struck me.

The French are suspicious people; if you are anything other than Roman Catholic, you must be part of a cult. Religion is a private thing; don't let it influence the rest of your life, or, worse yet, the lives of your neighbors.

And yet the people of France are searchingThey are searching for salvation.

"They look for God," one of our French teammates said recently, "but they do not look for a [church] building."

The people are opened to being discipled, but the idea of entering a church is intimidating and unattractive.  Therefore, as we meet people in France, as we share the Gospel with them and people enter into a relationship with Jesus, we will not just have a building for church, but we will disciple them and train them to disciple others.

What the article says is true:  Our Salvation lies elsewhere.  But it doesn't lie in a strong economy or anything else; Salvation is only found in Jesus Christ.  Praise Him!
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.  My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world."  -1 John 1:9-2:2
