April 10, 1949 - May 25, 2012
"I'm going to head home soon," I told my uncle Sam and cousin, Kylie.
In his livingroom, Uncle Sam sat on the hospital bed across from me. He looked healthy, though I knew otherwise.
"Me, too," he said. "I'm going Home soon, too."
At that point Kylie joined her dad, hugged him, and cried. I woke up.
I woke up on Friday May 25 and my heart was heavy. I prayed for my uncle Sam, aunt Pattie, Kylie and Corrie. "Lord, bring them peace and comfort." I knew that the cancer uncle Sam had been fighting for 3 years was taking over his body; we were no longer praying for health but for a peaceful passing.
Within 2 hours of my waking from that dream uncle Sam's battle was finished.
Uncle Sam had gone Home.
It has been an emotional week as we have grieved and celebrated uncle Sam's life. He was a Police Officer for 28 years, and at the end of his Memorial Service on Friday June 1, his fellow officers handed aunt Pattie an American flag and thanked her for his service. They then did one last call for him over the radios. But he is not here; he is Home!

On May 5 uncle Sam had Kylie and Corrie throw an Anniversary party, also known as "Saint Pattie's Day" to celebrate his wife. I was grateful to be there; it was the last time I saw uncle Sam.
