Déjà Vu
I stood at the bedroom door, waiting for my turn in the shower. Meagan stopped just outside of the bathroom and hollered down the stairs to Trevor who was about to leave for the grocery story. “Should you get more turkey?” she asked. They debated. “Nah,” she finally said, “Kate’s going to make the buffalo chicken dip, so I think we’ll have plenty of food.”
Déjà Vu.
Déjà Vu.
I had experienced this before; the conversation, the location…it was all familiar. And yet, it’s impossible for this to have happened before.
We arrived in Knoxville, TN last night. We’ll be staying with Jordan’s older brother, Trevor, and his wife, Meagan, for the next 10 days, and neither Jordan nor I have ever been here with them before. Making buffalo chicken dip may be a common occurrence, but standing at the top of the stairwell with Meagan and looking down to Trevor and Jordan is not.
Déjà vu fascinates me, and over the last few months I’ve experienced it several times.
Someone once suggested to me that, perhaps, déjà vu is God’s way of telling us that we are exactly where He wants us to be.
Another time that I distinctly remember having déjà vu was while visiting Steve and Donna, the American couple that will be our team leaders in France. While sitting in their living room in the quaint city of Annecy, France, I had the strong sensation that we had been there before; we had already had this conversation of the possibility of moving to Aix-les-Bains with them. And then we prayed. And I felt like we had already done that. But yet, it was impossible.
Was that God telling us that we were exactly where He wanted us?
Other times that I’ve experienced déjà vu have been less significant – dinner with friends, playing cards, meeting with people about the spiritual state of Europe – but each time the idea of déjà vu being God’s way of telling us we are exactly where He wants us to be brings me a sense of peace, encouragement, and awe.
What do you think?
