Aix-les-Bains 2: Jesus saves
Aix-les-Bains is a unique town. It is a popular tourist destination for several reasons. There is good skiing there and there are hot springs too. Many people get prescriptions from their doctors to spend a week in Aix for health reasons. The hot springs have many minerals in them, and are prescribed for sinus problems, asthma, and other skin problems. It is mostly a chemical solution to their problems, and not spiritual. However, I learned Steve Niles, an American missionary in France, that many sick people call these "doctors" who do spiritual prayers and chants to remove people's pains. They are very popular and not considered very weird. Steve suggested to someone he knows who was sick to have the elders pray and anoint their head with oil for healing--praying to our Heavenly Father. The person immediately received relief from their symptoms. Later they relapsed a little bit, and wanted to call one of these "doctors."
I am reminded of the story from the Bible (John 5:1-17) where people waited years at the pool in Bethesda, waiting for an angel to stir the waters, then be the first to plunge into the water for healing. One man had waited for several years, but was unable to get off of his mat because he was lame. He needed someone to take him to the water.
These people need the Living Water.
Jesus saves.
